REC Eastern Sierra Research Station
In addition to its facilities in Claremont, the Robert Center directs the REC Research Station on Tioga Pass in the eastern Sierra Nevada, overlooking Mono Lake and just a few miles from Yosemite National Park. This 160-acre reserve houses students and a supervisor engaged in summer internships, thesis projects, and field research activities.
The station is in a high hanging valley among pines and sage, a hundred yards from a large aspen grove, and adjacent to a small ephemeral stream and meadow. Nestled at 8500 feet near Tioga Pass, the station is inaccessible during the winter. During the summer, however, students use the facility as housing and a base of operations for thesis research, faculty research, and for summer internships with agencies in the area.
